Indonesia to diversify fuel imports with China, India supplies

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is diversifying its sources of Pertalite (RON 90) gasoline imports by adding China and India to its supplier network to bolster national energy security, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced Monday.
Laode Sulaeman, Director General of Oil and Gas, confirmed that state energy company PT Pertamina Patra Niaga will source the fuel from both nations to reduce dependency on traditional single-country suppliers such as Singapore.
“Yes, previously we also imported it from one country, so now we are looking to diversify our sources to other countries,” Sulaeman told reporters in Jakarta.
The ministry has initiated talks with prospective supplying countries while finalizing a ministerial regulation to establish import mechanisms, stages, and governance under existing presidential frameworks.
Current import arrangements will continue as officials construct the required regulatory framework.
Broadening supply lines for Pertalite—Indonesia's primary subsidized fuel—is expected to reinforce national energy resilience and enhance fuel distribution reliability across the archipelago, the ministry stated.
