Man's body found at mine near outback opal town

Translate

The body of a man has been found at a mine site near Coober Pedy in South Australia's outback, police say.

Police were called to the open cut mine south of the main township just before 9:30am on Thursday morning, after the man's body was found.

Police said the cause and circumstances of the man's death were unknown and were being investigated.

A post-mortem will be conducted today.

"Coober Pedy police are being assisted by Major Crime detectives and Forensic Response officers," police said.

They said a report would be prepared for the coroner.

Coober Pedy is well known for its opal mines, which dot the landscape around the town.
