REVEALED: Chiefs signing has a dismal disciplinary record

Translate

Kaizer Chiefs are on the brink of signing Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana. Is the juice worth the squeeze in this case?

Mokwana’s disciplinary record leaves a lot to be desired

Elias Mokwana is on the brink of a move to Kaizer Chiefs. The ex-Sekhukhune winger has had a relatively turbulent couple of years since his move from Babina Noko to Esperance in August 2024. The Bafana winger, capped by South Africa 11 times, moved to Saudi Pro League side Al Hazem on loan a year later, where he racked up an impressive tally of appearances. Mokwana played 24 times in the 2025-26 Saudi Pro League season, scoring once and supplying three assists. That’s a pretty poor direct output of goal contributions, but what’s even more worrying is his disciplinary record. In those 24 appearances, Mokwana picked up six yellow cards, an average of a booking every four games. In 65 appearances for Sekhukhune, he picked up 10 yellows, proving this wasn’t an outlier occurrence.

Will Kaizer Chiefs get the best out of Mokwana?

In the cold light of day, Mokwana got more yellows than direct goal contributions in the Saudi Pro League. No wonder he returned to parent club Esperance in June 2025. A year later, the Tunisian side released him. Mokwana was without a club for three months, and now he’s on the brink of moving to Kaizer Chiefs.

Pirates rule the roost again

Orlando Pirates boss Abdeslam Ouaddou notched his 50th win for a PSL club at the weekend when Pirates triumphed 2-1 over Kaizer Chiefs. The Sea Robbers have won four of the last six meetings between the sides.
