PlayStation 5 Official Controller Redesign Leaves Gamers Baffled

Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.

Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.

Despite making some major changes to its business practices in upcoming months, it seems as though Sony still wants to pay attention to its hardware releases. Peripherals for our consoles are always an important part of our gameplay experience, as a decent controller can be make or break. Needing to provide comfort, aesthetics, and, in the case of the DualSense controller, haptic feedback, any release should have all of this in mind.

On top of that, Sony is no stranger to releasing brand-new DualSense controllers that coincide with the launch of some of its biggest games, but on this occasion, it seems as though the PlayStation developer is teaming up with Lisa for a global PlayStation 5 campaign.

The Thai rapper, singer, dancer, and actress rose to fame as a member of the South Korean girl group Blackpink, but now she is making her own splash on the world as part of a massive campaign alongside Sony.

As such, a limited-edition DualSense wireless controller has been unveiled, and most exciting, is that it was helped design by Lisa herself.

“Gaming is something I do whenever I have time to relax, so getting to create this collection with PlayStation was very exciting. I had a lot of fun adding in little details that I knew my fans would notice, and I wanted the fans to have something they can connect with. I’ve always loved expressing myself through music and fashion, so this collaboration gave me a new way to be creative and show a different side of myself. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.” – Lisa

As such, the brand-new DualSense features a slick Chroma Pearl design, with decals of Lisa's iconic bangs and eyes on the touchpad, alongside her signature stars and 'LL' lettering.

Available from 30 October, the Lisa Limited Edition controller will be available in limited quantities directly from PlayStation and participating retailers at $84.99 USD / ¥12,480 (including tax) / €84.99 / £74.99. Additionally, pre-orders will go live on October 2 at 10am local time, while supplies last.

Following the announcement of the collaboration over on Twitter/X, fans were quick to share their thoughts on the upcoming limited edition hardware.

"Lisa chose the worst moment to partner with Sony. Poor girl. At least, the controller is physical," one comment read, referring to Sony's decision to only release digital games in the future. Another agreed, adding, "I won't knock her product. It's pretty cool. I'm glad we can still get physical controllers and not digital ones."

However, another user was less than pleased, sharing, "Once again, Sony failing at hearing their fans and delivering something nobody asked for. Plus, it's a simple plain white controller with a sticker on the touchpad."

It seems as though Sony is definitely ignoring the elephant in the room, but if you are a fan of Lisa, and want to grab yourself a brand-new DualSense controller, look no further than Lisa Limited Edition when it goes live this October.
