BJP hits back at Kharge over 'illegal' remark

'Insulting people's mandate is an old characteristic of Congress. Whenever people reject Congress, it begins to discredit constitutional institutions and the mandate,' Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.

NEW DELHI: Hitting back at Congress president Kharge for his "illegal" jibe at PM Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah, BJP said Saturday that it is not only an insult to the democratic wisdom of 140 crore Indians but also shows brazen disrespect for the Constitution and a reflection of the opposition's arrogance."Insulting people's mandate is an old characteristic of Congress. Whenever people reject Congress, it begins to discredit constitutional institutions and the mandate," Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said. He added, "Calling the PM, who has been elected with a full majority and a record mandate 'illegal' reflects Congress' arrogance and its distrust of the democratic system. Does democracy become legitimate only when the Gandhi family or Congress is in power?"
