Senior citizen found dead hours after motorcycle crash in Kuantan

KUANTAN: An elderly man believed to have been involved in a motorcycle accident was found dead in a drain along Jalan Kuantan-Maran near Gambang here yesterday.

Ng Chee Choy, 75, was found lying face down in the drain, fully clothed with his helmet still on, by a member of the public at 6.30pm.

Kuantan district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah, said the victim's Honda C100 motorcycle was found beside his body.

"A member of the public who was crossing the road towards a nearby home improvement store spotted the victim lying in the drain with his helmet still on and alerted police.

"The victim, who was travelling from Kuantan towards Gambang, is believed to have lost control of his motorcycle before veering into the drain on the left side of the road," he said in a statement today.

Ashari said police found no criminal elements.

A medical team determined that the victim had died from severe head injuries several hours before his body was found.

He said the remains were taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
