Flamingos Cruise Past Niger 5-0 In WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup

Nigeria’s Flamingos made a flying start to their 2026 WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup campaign, securing a commanding 5-0 victory over Niger Republic in Yamoussoukro on Wednesday.

The Flamingos dominated proceedings from the opening whistle, controlling possession and setting the pace as they constantly threatened the Nigerien defence.

Captain Harmony Chidi opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a well-taken finish to give Nigeria a deserved 1-0 lead.

Nigeria continued to apply pressure and eventually doubled their advantage through Awawu Bashiru, who calmly converted her opportunity to make it 2-0.

The Flamingos thought they had added a third before the break, but Adegbuyi’s effort was ruled out for offside. Despite the disallowed goal, Nigeria remained firmly in control, with goalkeeper Onyiyechi Opara barely troubled during the opening 45 minutes.

After the restart, the Flamingos maintained their attacking intensity as Niger Republic struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace, movement and creativity.

Nigeria remained patient in possession, probing for openings as they searched for more goals. Their persistence finally paid off late in the match when Ohunene Sunday extended the lead in the 83rd minute with a composed finish.

Mary Dunstan then added a fourth goal shortly afterwards, leaving the Nigerien side struggling to contain the relentless Flamingos.

Nigeria completed the emphatic 5-0 victory to begin their WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup campaign on a strong note.
