HONG KONG, Oct 6 — Since her marriage with singer-actor Ekin Cheng in 2013, Yoyo Mung has mostly been out of the spotlight, only starring in a handful of films up to 2019.

Following a six-year hiatus, the 53-year-old Hong Kong actress is back with the new film Good Trip, playing actor Nick Cheung’s onscreen wife.

In a recent interview on the YouTube talk show Kam Shing Mode, she talked about how stepping away from acting has greatly reduced her stress.

Yoyo, who was with TVB until 2013, said her father died in 2022 while her sister died last year, so she no longer feels the need to force herself to work hard.

She currently lives a simple and frugal life, at most only buying T-shirts and sportswear monthly.

According to her, Ekin, 59, had even jokingly remarked that she dresses like a “village auntie”.

It’s been 20 years since the couple started dating, and while Yoyo admitted there have been occasional disagreements, Ekin makes her feel at ease.

Yoyo, who had a rough childhood with divorced parents and a younger sister who died by suicide, recalled something he once told her: “When you were a baby, you didn’t know anything and what the world is like. But you grew up just the same.”

This got her thinking, if she wasn’t afraid when she was a child, then why should she be now when she’s decades older?

She realised she shouldn’t be afraid to try new things and to take a step back if something doesn’t work.

“I now learn not to think about something if it makes me unhappy… Why do you have to remind yourself of unhappy times? It’s over, the person is gone, what have you done?” she said, adding that she has learnt to accept and let go of things that can’t be changed and live her life well. — AsiaOne
