Buildings swept away as flash floods hit central Nepal

Translate

A flash flood has washed away houses, bridges and damaged a hydropower project along a river in central Nepal.

The army said on Sunday that it had rescued 49 people from flood affected areas, but five are still missing, the district's top official confirmed.

It is believed that the flood was caused by a landslide upstream of the Budhi Gandaki River in the Gorkha district.

Four bridges and nearly two dozen houses have been swept away, as well as a camp at a hydropower project along the river.

Nepal is still trying to recover from catastrophic floods and landslides that swept through its border towns with Tibet two months ago, wiping out thousands of houses, destroying critical energy infrastructure and leaving thousands dead and missing.
