Masses suspended at Pampanga cathedral due to flooding

MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — The Metropolitan Cathedral of San Fernando in Pampanga’s capital city suspended all Masses on Sunday, Aug. 30, due to flooding.

In a Facebook post late Saturday, the cathedral said floodwaters and silt had seeped into the church, while its patio and surrounding streets remained submerged.

“For the safety of all, we regret to announce that all Sunday morning and afternoon Masses tomorrow (August 30) are cancelled,” it said.

Four Masses were scheduled from 5 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., while three others were set between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Masses on Friday and Saturday had also been canceled due to flooding in downtown San Fernando.

Meanwhile, SM City Pampanga, which straddles San Fernando and Mexico, and SM City San Fernando Downtown also remained closed on Sunday due to flooding.

“For the safety of our customers and employees, SM City San Fernando Downtown and SM City Pampanga will be closed today, August 30, 2026,” the malls said in separate Facebook posts. /mcm
