Hulu Orders ‘Heatwave’ Ibiza-Set Limited Series From ‘Joan’ Creator Anna Symon

EXCLUSIVE: Hulu is heading to Ibiza for its next limited series. The Disney streamer has greenlighted Heatwave, created, written and executive produced by Anna Symon, creator of the ITV/CW series Joan starring Sophie Turner.

Set on the idyllic island of Ibiza, Heatwave violently explodes the buried secrets of two families on a life-changing vacation. Provocative and unflinching, the series lays bare the knotty conflicts of midlife through the eyes of two couples — Daisy and Andy, Mac and Clare — whose reunion after years of lost contact threatens to destroy everything.

Heatwave is also executive produced by former Tiger Aspect managing director Lucy Bedford (ITV’s Three Little Birds) via her B Major Productions, former HBO SVP Kathleen McCaffrey via her little gems, Banijay UK, and Shannon Murphy (FX’s Dying For Sex) who is directing.

It has been limited series pickup season at Hulu with three greenlights over the past month, to a Lorena Bobbitt installment of Good American Family; Victoria starring Li Jun Li, and now Heatwave.

In addition to Joan, British writer Symon developed and executive produced Apple TV’s The Essex Serpent, starring Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston, executive produced ITV’s Deep Water, starring Anna Friel, and wrote BBC’s Mrs. Wilson, starring Ruth Wilson, which received BAFTA nomination for Best Miniseries. She is repped by UTA and Casarotto in the UK.

Australian director Murphy won a DGA Award for her work on Dying For Sex, which also landed her a directing Emmy nomination. She most recently directed and executive produced the upcoming Netflix series The Age of Innocence. Murphy is repped by UTA.
