West Indies 322 for 8 (Joseph 16*, Warrican 9*, Mahmud 5-86) v Bangladesh

Hasan Mahmud's five-wicket haul brought Bangladesh back into contention against West Indies on the second morning of the Sylhet Test.

It was Mahmud's morning as he took his fifth five-wicket haul coming in a fifth different country, while this was his first one at home. Mahmud was on a hat-trick at one stage, even gaining an lbw decision from the on-field umpire on the hat-trick ball, but missed out through West Indies using the review. Mahmud later became the first Bangladesh seamer to get a stumping off his bowling.

Amir Jangoo, the centurion from last evening, began the session with the first day confidence, cracking Nayeem Hasan for two early fours. Shadman Islam suffered an ankle injury, writhing in pain in the outfield before being stretchered off as Bangladesh's frustration grew in Sylhet.

But the new ball turned their luck. Mahmud removed Jangoo with a massive in-ducker, which the left-hander left trusting the angle and bounce of the delivery. It ended a fine 133 off 212 balls from Jangoo, with 13 fours and two sixes. Next ball, Mahmud's inswinger to the right-handed Roston Chase took the inside edge and had him caught behind for a golden duck.

Umpire Asif Yaqoob gave Joshua Bishop lbw next ball, sparking hat-trick celebrations, but the review cleared it up immediately. Bishop had inside edged it into his front pad.

Bishop and Greaves held up Bangladesh for the next seven overs, hitting the occasional boundaries. Mahmud also dropped Bishop on nine, his second missed caught-and-bowled chance in the innings. Greaves also reached his half-century, as it started to look like West Indies were turning a corner.

Litton Das' quick thinking however brought Bangladesh back among the wickets. He stumped Bishop off the first ball he went up to the stumps to Mahmud who completed his five-wicket haul. Mehidy Hasan Miraz removed the dangerous Greaves in the next over, after he made 51 off 112 balls. West Indies slipped from 264 for 5 to 301 for 8 before Shamar Joseph showed some counterattack.
