Susie Wiles allies furious over her shock removal as Trump's 'wartime general' Stephen Miller takes control

Allies of Susie Wiles are furious after President Donald Trump announced she would be leaving her role as White House Chief of Staff, handing control to hardline adviser Stephen Miller in the wake of Republicans' bruising midterm losses.

Trump announced Friday that Miller would take over the powerful position on Monday, while Wiles would be moved to the Trump Political Operation.

The Daily Mail first reported on Wiles' planned departure back in June, which Wiles herself fiercely pushed back on.

She dismissed it as 'Friday fiction' and insisted she was 'not going anywhere.'

The shake-up comes just days after Democrats made major gains in the midterms, leaving Republicans facing questions over their campaign strategy and who should take responsibility for the losses.

Trump praised Wiles as having done an 'outstanding job' and insisted she had 'done a great job' as chief of staff.

Wiles thanked President Trump for the opportunity to serve as his chief of staff on X, saying it had been 'the honor of a lifetime.'

She also praised Stephen Miller, congratulating him on the appointment and expressing confidence that he would continue advancing Trump's agenda.

Fox News anchor Bret Baier said Trump's pick of Stephen Miller signals the president is 'girding for a battle' following Republicans' midterm losses

Indiana Representative Marlin Stutzman had allegedly been calling for Miller to be fired since Tuesday's election losses and described Trump's decision to promote him to White House Chief of Staff as a 'horrible decision'

But the move has sparked a wave of criticism, with few welcoming the decision who aren't in Trump's administration.

With the November 19 leadership elections approaching, anticipated Speaker of the House Hakeem Jeffries wasted no time taking aim at Miller, unleashing a string of scathing insults and accusations.

‘Stephen Miller is a dangerous xenophobe and reckless extremist who has American blood on his hands,’ he wrote on X.

‘His presence in government should be eradicated like a malignant tumor. Fire him today.’

Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said Wiles' new position within Trump's political operation, which handles campaigns, will almost guarantee the party a 0 percent chance of winning the presidential election in 2028.

Fox News anchor Bret Baier said Trump's pick of Miller signals the president is 'girding for a battle' following Republicans' midterm losses.

Baier also said Wiles had privately anticipated a possible shake-up after Tuesday's results, but said Miller's influence over immigration and deportation policy sends a clear message about the administration's priorities heading into the next two years.

Democratic strategist and former Obama senior adviser David Axelrod blasted the decision, writing:

'Few did more to contribute to the debacle the GOP just endured than Stephen Miller. The backlash to his brutal ICE raids and nativist rants can be seen in returns all over the country. And for that, he's promoted?'

Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Wiles, saying she had served the country with 'exceptional strength, devotion, and grace' and done an 'incredible job' working for Trump

Semafor reporter Nicholas Wu wrote on X that Indiana Representative Marlin Stutzman had been calling for Miller to be fired since Tuesday's election losses and described Trump's decision to promote him to White House Chief of Staff as a 'horrible decision.'

On the contrary, Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Wiles, saying she had served the country with 'exceptional strength, devotion, and grace' and done an 'incredible job' working for Trump.

Rubio thanked Wiles for her service and friendship, wishing her success in her next chapter, while also welcoming Miller's promotion.

He described Miller as one of Trump's 'most trusted and longtime advisors' and said he looked forward to continuing to work with him to advance the president's agenda.

Vice President JD Vance also weighed in, thanking Wiles for her friendship and service to both Trump and the country.

He praised Miller as an 'amazing patriot' and congratulated him on what he called a 'well deserved promotion,' adding that he believed he would 'do great things' in the powerful new role.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had few words for the switch-up: 'Patriots in control.'

Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt rushed to defend Wiles, describing her as one of the 'kindest and toughest' people she had ever met.

Leavitt described Wiles as both a friend and former boss, highlighting her role as the first woman to serve as White House Chief of Staff, saying she led the most productive start to a presidency in decades, even while battling breast cancer.

But Leavitt also threw her support behind Miller, calling him the 'perfect choice' to succeed Wiles and praising his loyalty and commitment to Trump's America First movement.

She said she had 'complete confidence' Miller would make the final two years of Trump's term a success, while urging Republicans not to 'fall into despair' or hand the country over to Democrats.

Conservative lawyer and Trump ally Mike Davis reacted by praising Susie Wiles, saying she had served Trump 'extremely effectively' for years and helped lead his comeback after 2020, which he called 'the best-ever comeback in American history.'

He added that Stephen Miller was 'the perfect man for the moment' to serve as Trump's 'wartime general.'

Wiles has faced scrutiny over her family's business ties to a pro-Russian government in the Balkans, with questions emerging about potential conflicts of interest involving her daughter, Katie Wiles.

Katie, a partner at Washington lobbying firm Continental Strategy, traveled to Republika Srpska in August, where she was photographed holding a rifle alongside the region's interior minister, Željko Budimir, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The controversy deepened after it emerged that Continental Strategy had registered to lobby on behalf of Republika Srpska.

Susie met with another senior political figure from the region, Željka Cvijanović, at the White House in September.

The White House has denied that Wiles discussed her daughter's business dealings or used her position to advance the firm's interests.
