CIDG arrests 3 over alleged sale of fake PNP docs in Manila

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Monday said it has arrested three individuals allegedly involved in the sale of fake Philippine National Police (PNP) documents in Recto, Manila.

At a press briefing, CIDG National Capital Region chief Police Colonel John Guiagui said the suspects were arrested during a buy-bust after police personnel paid them to produce counterfeit documents.

“Ito yung tatlo na nahuli natin doon (These are the three arrested suspects). And we have filed necessary case which is the falsification of public documents,” Guiagui said.

Among the documents allegedly being forged were permits to carry (PTCs), police clearances, and identification cards, including those used by security guards.

Guiagui said the illegal PTCs were concerning because individuals could obtain the documents without undergoing the required screening and qualification process.

The suspects allegedly charged more than P2,000 for an ID or document.

Authorities are checking the identities of people who may have commissioned fake documents from the arrested suspects. Guiagui said these individuals may be subpoenaed to appear before investigators and surrender the counterfeit documents.

Investigators will also examine the contents of an external drive and a computer hard drive seized during the operation for possible additional evidence and names of clients. —AOL, GMA News
