My Chemical Romance tease potential new album as they wrap ‘Long Live The Black Parade’ tour
My Chemical Romance have shared hopes of recording a new album, which would mark their first in more than 15 years.
Last night (September 12), the band played the closing night of their ‘Long Live The Black Parade’ anniversary tour in San Antonio. The show saw the band performing the classic emo album in full before delivering a second set on a B-stage in the middle of the venue.
It also saw frontman Gerard Way tell the Alamodome audience about their hopes of recording a new album, which could be their first full-length since 2010’s ‘Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys’.
“Just know that, like, we’ve kind of really always wanted to make another record, so we hope that life allows us to do that,” Way said. “Cause you guys, honestly, you guys kept us alive so long. You guys deserve another record. I don’t know when it’ll be. But it’ll be awesome.”

As Way mentioned, there’s no official release date or timeline as yet, but it marks the band’s first public overture about a fifth record since their 2019 reunion.

Last night’s concert saw the band round off a massive anniversary trek celebrating their seminal 2006 album. It’s been performed in full throughout the tour, which was extended into a global stadium run with dates across North America, the UK and Europe.
NME gave My Chemical Romance’s Anfield concert a glowing five-star review, writing: “Shared glances between the band make it obvious how much fun is being had up there. With all of the energy concentrated to the small stage they strut around, they could get lost in the throng, but instead they command it. It’s an assured performance that highlights how much more is being offered here than pop-punk nostalgia, the grit of Way’s vocals always remaining the main attraction.”
Back when ‘The Black Parade’ was released, NME gave the record a glowing 9/10 review, praising it as a release that felt like it was going “to turn MCR into the biggest band on the planet”.
“This album has given them the freedom to do anything they want next, but for now this is one to file alongside ‘American Idiot’, ‘Doolittle’ and ‘Nevermind’ on your greatest US rock albums shelf,” it read. “Long live My Chemical Romance, the outrageously-camp, loud and righteous new kings of the world. Those bottle-chucking haters are just going to have to get used to it.”
Earlier this week, the band played ‘The Light Behind Your Eyes’ live for the first time ever, and dedicated 2013 track ‘Boy Division’ to the late Every Time I Die guitarist and wrestler Andy Williams, who passed away over the weekend after collapsing after a wrestling event in Pennsylvania.
MCR also recently announced an expanded 20th anniversary reissue of ‘The Black Parade’, and made a 2007 live recording of ‘The Sharpest Lives’ available to stream for the first time.
