Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was welcomed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon arriving at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India, on Saturday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit.

According to a livestream on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, Prabowo, dressed in a black suit, arrived at around 2:30 p.m. local time.

The two leaders shook hands and embraced before standing side by side for a photo session in front of the cameras.

The 18th BRICS Summit is being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12–13, 2026. Under India's presidency, the summit carries the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability."

Prabowo's attendance, representing Indonesia as a full BRICS member, reflects the country's efforts to strengthen its active role in multilateral cooperation. It also reflects Indonesia's commitment to promoting a more balanced and inclusive global economic order while helping developing countries gain a stronger voice.

At the 18th BRICS Summit, leaders of member states will discuss key strategic agendas aimed at strengthening cooperation among developing countries.

The meeting is also expected to produce concrete steps to bolster cooperation in food security, energy, development financing, and trade.

Earlier, Prabowo departed for New Delhi from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta at 5 p.m. local time.

He was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani, Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
