Sunil Kumar beats Callum Roberts to win bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling in Asian Games 2026

India’s Sunil Kumar beat Philippines’ Callum Johnston Roberts in the bronze-medal match of the men’s Greco-Roman 87kg event at the Asian Games 2026 on Wednesday.

Sunil outplayed his opponent and raced to a 9-0 lead in the first round to claim victory by technical superiority at the Nagoya City Inae Sports Center in Japan.

With this win, Sunil has now become the first Indian to win two medals in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Asian Games.

The 27-year-old had won a bronze medal in the same event in Hangzhou 2022.

Sunil began his Asian Games 2026 campaign with a dominant technical superiority win over Muhammad Sultonzoda of Tajikistan.

But in the semifinal, Sunil was trumped by Japan’s Taizo Yoshida 0-11.
