WEATHER: Thundershowers to hit parts of South Africa

Here is what the weather has in store for KZN, Free State and North West on Thursday 3 September 2026.

KWAZULU-NATAL

Morning fog will affect the south coast and nearby interior, while the rest of the area will stay fine and warm to hot, with very hot conditions in some eastern areas.

Cloud cover will increase in the south by evening, bringing isolated showers and thundershowers to the far south.

Winds along the coast will be light to moderate from the north to north-east, becoming fresh at times in the north. South of Richards Bay, winds will strengthen and shift to fresh to strong southerly to south-westerly by evening.

The UVB sunburn index is going to be very high.

DURBAN

Morning fog will occur in places; otherwise, conditions will remain fine.

Winds will be light to moderate from the north to north-east before becoming fresh to strong from the south to south-west by evening.

Temperatures will range from 20°C to 36°C.

FREE STATE

Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.

BLOEMFONTEIN

Bloemfontein is going to be partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers..

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 10°C to a maximum of 28°C.

NORTH WEST

North West is going to be partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers except the extreme east.

MAHIKENG

Mahikeng is going to be partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 11°C. to a maximum of 29°C.
