October is poised to be a busy month for Marvel. This Wednesday, October 7, marks the official launch of the Midnight Universe, a new horror comic imprint that gives a superstar collective of writers and artists a chance to reimagine Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, and the X-Men through a macabre new lens. Excitement has been building for the first issues, with over one million copies already ordered and second printings set for the end of the month. The House of Ideas is also set to return to New York Comic Con, which kicks off later this week on October 8 and runs through the weekend, where it'll host loaded panels of guests, giveaways, and a blockbuster showcase of the future of Marvel Television and Animation.

During the event, Marvel Comics' increasing partnership with WEBTOON will be on full display as well. Collider's Maggie Lovitt will moderate their joint That Time Deadpool Fell into a WEBTOON panel on Friday, October 9, providing a preview of one of the two comic giants' first collaborative stories set to launch next year. Both companies' presences at NYCC will also serve to tease their future together following the announcement of a deal last year to give WEBTOON access to Disney's war chest of iconic characters. This agreement has already brought several Marvel Comics classics to the South Korean-American webtoon platform in easy-to-read episodic formats, including Amazing Spider-Man (2022), Avengers (2012), and Alien: Bloodlines. Before coming to the annual convention, however, they've united to change how Marvel issues can be experienced digitally.

On November 16, the official Marvel Comics app will launch as the new digital home of over 35,000 stories from the publisher's storied history as well as stories based on 20th Century Studios, Star Wars, and, eventually, Walt Disney Pictures IP. Like Marvel Unlimited before it, this new platform will be available on mobile and PC, with WEBTOON bringing its expertise in intuitive digital comic hosting as both builder and operator. Issues will be available to read in either the traditional page-based format or through vertical scrolling, and new personalization options and search functions are designed to make it easier than ever to hop in, from a cover-scroll interface that makes viewing hundreds of titles simple, to character and creator pages to track their latest releases, and much more. Readers will be able to browse both archived comics and upcoming releases, with the ability to add newer titles to their Pull List in advance.

Collider Exclusive · 8 Questions · 2 Minutes What MCU Superpower Would You Have? Strength · Spider-Sense · Invisibility · Chaos Magic

Eight honest questions about how you actually are: your first instinct when things go wrong, what your friends rely on you for, how you handle stress, what your real flaw is. Answer them and we will tell you which power you would wake up with. The best ones in the MCU are never random, because they always say something about the person who got them.

💪Super Strength(Hulk)

🕸️Spider-Sense(Spider-Man)

🫧Invisibility(Fantastic Four)

🔮Chaos Magic(Scarlet Witch)

01

What is your first instinct when something goes wrong? Go with the honest answer rather than the heroic one.

02

How do you handle being the centre of attention? Every hero on this list answers this differently.

03

What do your friends rely on you for? They would all name the same thing about you.

04

How do you deal with stress? Nobody picks the healthy one, and that is fine.

05

What is your actual flaw? The useful thing here is picking the true one.

06

What kind of help do you actually give people? Everybody has one default, whatever the situation is.

07

How do you want strangers to see you? Answer for the first ten minutes, not the first year.

08

What would you want a superpower for? Eight questions in, this is the one that picks your power.

The Gift Is Given Your Power Is…

Four powers, and four completely different kinds of person behind them. Here is what you would wake up with, what it would cost you, and why the MCU keeps handing it to somebody exactly like you.

Super Strength

You get the power that is really about taking the hit so that nobody else has to. Strength in the MCU always lands on people who were already carrying too much, which is exactly why it suits you.

  • Your instinct is to put yourself between the problem and the people, and you do it before anybody has thought to ask.
  • Bruce Banner is the most interesting version of this because his story was never about lifting things, it was about control.
  • The catch with strength is that people stop checking whether you are alright, since you have made a habit of looking like you always are.
  • You would be the one everybody calls at two in the morning, and you would answer every single time.

Spider-Sense

You get the power that never switches off. Spider-sense is a gift and a nervous system on permanent alert, and the people who get it in these films are always the ones who were already worrying about everybody.

  • You read a situation faster than you can explain it, and you are usually right in a way you cannot show your working for.
  • Peter Parker is the template because he takes on more than he can hold and then apologises for not holding it well enough.
  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrived in July 2026 and put him back to being local, broke and permanently on call.
  • The cost here is real, since a power that warns you about everything also means you are never quite off duty.

Invisibility

You get the quietest power in the building, and quietly the most useful. Invisibility comes with force fields for a reason, because the people who prefer not to be seen are usually the ones holding a shield around everybody else.

  • You notice everything, largely because you spend more time observing a room than performing in it.
  • Sue Storm is the strongest member of her team and the least interested in anybody saying so, which is very much your energy.
  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps finally gave the family a proper MCU home in 2025 and made her the centre of it.
  • Your risk is that being unseen becomes a habit rather than a choice, and the people who love you would like a look in.

Chaos Magic

You get the biggest and least comfortable power on the list, the one that runs directly on feeling. Chaos magic is not really a superpower in the MCU so much as an emotional state with consequences attached.

  • You feel things at a volume other people do not, and you have spent years managing that rather than being managed by it.
  • Wanda is the best written character Marvel has, precisely because her power and her grief turned out to be the same thing.
  • WandaVision remains the high point of Marvel television, and it works because the spectacle is only ever a symptom.
  • The warning attached to this one is simple. A power that answers to how you feel is only ever as steady as you are.

How Much Will the New Marvel Comics App Cost?

Subscriptions for the Marvel Comics app will be split into a base tier and ultimate tier. Both offer full access to the Marvel library, but base subscribers have to wait three months for the newest issues after they hit store shelves, while ultimate subscribers get them in just one month. The former will be available for $9.99 per month or $69.99 per year, while the latter goes for $12.49 a month, or $99.99 a year, before tax. However, those who pre-register for the Marvel Comics app on the official web page can claim a year of the ultimate tier for a founding member price of $59.99, though after that year is up, the price jumps to the normal ultimate annual rate. As a cherry on top, Marvel Unlimited subscribers will be able to transfer their reading history over to the new app. Attendees at NYCC can also swing by booth #2453 for an early look at a beta version of the app in action, and they can pre-register and claim that founding member discount on-site, with the first 2,000 fans even receiving a limited-edition Marvel Comics print ID card.

David Abdo, General Manager of Marvel Comics and Franchise, sees WEBTOON's partnership in making the new Marvel Comics app as a way to modernize the storied comic company's digital approach. “We know that there is a large audience of readers who are looking to experience comics digitally, and there is no richer library than Marvel Comics,” he said in an official statement. "We’re excited to partner with WEBTOON, industry leaders in the space, to create a new app that can continue to grow and evolve with the way readers discover and experience comics.” The webcomic giant has rapidly grown as a global platform of creative stories, now reaching over 155 million monthly active users. In a separate statement, WEBTOON Entertainment president Yongsoo Kim shared his confidence that the company has made a platform worthy of carrying Marvel's legacy into the digital future.

"The Marvel Comics app represents a new chapter in helping fans connect with the stories they love. By combining WEBTOON's expertise in building digital comics platforms with Marvel’s unparalleled storytelling legacy, we're making it easier for longtime fans and new readers alike to explore Marvel’s universe and discover their next favorite story."

The new Marvel Comics app built and operated by WEBTOON launches on November 16. Stay tuned here at Collider for more information as the date draws closer.
