Translate

Marcus Theatres posted its highest third quarter revenue and profit ever as the box office boomed led by Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey and a diverse slate of films.

Theatrical revenues rose 21% to $145 million for the three months ended in September; operating income of $22.2 million rose by $9.9 million.

Admission revenues grew 22%, with attendance up 17% and average ticket prices up 4.3%. Average concession revenues per person rose 4%.

“The box office continued to soar in the third quarter, with the best summer movie season in company history driving our record-breaking quarterly results,” said Marcus Theatres President Jeffry Tomachek. Momentum that’s been building all year continues in the current fourth quarter, he said, citing incoming franchise favorites The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Dune: Part Three, and Avengers: Doomsday.

The chain’s top five highest-performing 3Q films were Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey, Toy Story 5, Minions & Monsters and Moana. Films doing well so far in Q4 include Verity, Other Mommy and Street Fighter.

Other anticipated highlights for the rest of 2026 include The Cat in the Hat, Godzilla Minus Zero, I Play Rocky, Hexed, Focker-In-Law, The Angry Birds Movie 3 and Jumanji: Open World.

And he ticked off a long list of 2027 films with likely box office chops. With Marcus being the first exhibitor to report this earnings season, here they all are: Ice Age: Boiling Point, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, Gatto, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Chosen: The Crucifixion, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, Not Alone, Spaceballs: The New One, The Legend of Zelda, Star Wars: Starfighter, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Shrek 5, Man of Tomorrow, A Minecraft Movie: Squared, A Quiet Place Part 3, The Bluey Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2, The New Simpsons Movie, The Conjuring: First Communion, The Great Beyond, Margie Claus, Frozen 3, Avengers: Secret Wars, The Housemaid’s Secret, and The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

The Marcus Theatres chain is half of Milwaukee-based Marcus Corp., which also runs a hotel group. CEO Greg Marcus will host an investor call later Thursday morning.
