Broadway Box Office: Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ ‘Other Desert Cities,’ Billy Crystal’s ‘860,’ ‘A Few Good Men’ See Strong Momentum

Translate

The fall season is gearing up on Broadway, with a number of new shows prepping for openings and drawing in big grosses.

Other Desert Cities, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Allison Janney and Joe Keery, was the third highest grossing show of the week with $1.8 million, despite an Oct. 18 opening night performance that was entirely comped, as well as comped press performances in the leadup.

Even with the comped tickets, the average ticket price for the play was $233, coming in second to Hamilton’s $255.

Hamilton was the top grossing show of the week with $2.8 million, followed by The Lion King with $2 million. MJ was the fourth highest grossing with $1.76 million, followed by the Bowen Yang-led Oh, Mary! with $1.5 million.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, usually within the top five, dropped close to $1 million last week due to the scheduled absence of Tom Felton, who played the original Draco Malfoy, in the cast.

Billy Crystal’s solo show 860 continues to bring in crowds, with close to 99 percent capacity. The play grossed close to $1.3 million, with four heavily comped press performances, ahead of an Oct. 21 opening.

A Few Good Men, starring Tom Blyth, Bradley Whitford and Krysta Rodriguez, jumped up to seven performances from three the prior week, and saw grosses hit $1.2 million, with the show playing to 100 percent capacity. The play is scheduled to open Oct. 29.

New musical Wanted got a strong start, as it played its first five previews last week at close to 100 percent capacity and brought in $451,014 across those performances. The musical is set to open Nov. 8.
