KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated national track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang for delivering Malaysia's eighth gold medal through the men's keirin event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games today.

In a Facebook post, Ahmad Zahid said the achievement was a proud moment, coming just a day after the 38-year-old Dungun-born rider won bronze in the individual sprint event.

He said Azizulhasni, affectionately known as 'The Pocket Rocketman', returned to the track today and once again proved his champion's spirit with an extraordinary late sprint to take the Jalur Gemilang to the top of the podium.

"This is the Datuk Azizulhasni we know. Calm, disciplined and never stops fighting until the finish line.

"Congratulations, Jijoe. Thank you for continuing to make Malaysia proud. You are truly a legend," he said. --BERNAMA
