AICHI: National men's singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao is refusing to get carried away after stunning Indonesia's world No. 1 Jonatan Christie in the men's team quarter-finals at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya.

Jun Hao insists that his focus now is on ironing out his weaknesses ahead of the individual event.

Despite securing a significant victory over Jonatan, Jun Hao knows an even tougher challenge awaits in the individual competition, which begins on Friday, and does not want his breakthrough win to become an excuse for complacency.

The world No. 33 said the victory would instead serve as motivation to work harder and sharpen his preparations for the challenges ahead.

"This victory is certainly important because I had not beaten him this year. Over the past few months, I managed to push him several times right until the final points, but I never won.

"So this victory gives me a lot of motivation to be better prepared, stronger and more confident in myself going forward," Jun Hao said on Tuesday.

Jun Hao fought back after losing the opening game before overcoming Jonatan 20-22, 21-12, 21-17 to secure Malaysia's first point.

Reflecting on the key to his victory, Jun Hao said consistency, focus and fighting spirit on every point were crucial against the world No. 1.

"I think on every point, I tried to maintain my consistency and fighting spirit. I focused on every point that was played," added Jun Hao.

Jun Hao said his immediate priority was recovery before turning his attention to preparations for the individual event.

"For now, I need to focus on recovery first. After that, I will prepare as well as I can and give it my best," he said
