Saumu Mbuvi Withdraws From Nairobi Women Representative Race

Translate

Saumu Mbuvi has withdrawn from the Nairobi Women Representative race under the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), citing her father’s counsel and other unavoidable circumstances that have forced her to reconsider her political plans.

In a statement announcing her decision, Saumu said the move followed considerable reflection, consultations and careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding her political journey.

She acknowledged that stepping away from the race had not been an easy decision, noting that her father’s wishes and guidance played a significant role in determining her next course of action.

“This decision has not been arrived at lightly. It follows the counsel and wishes of my father, whose guidance I hold in the highest regard, alongside other unavoidable circumstances that have necessitated a reassessment of my immediate plans and priorities,” she stated.

Her announcement brings her bid for the Nairobi Women Representative seat to an end for now, although she maintained that withdrawing from the contest does not mean abandoning the principles that inspired her political ambitions.

Saumu said leadership requires more than the courage to pursue political ambitions, arguing that it also involves recognising when circumstances demand a change of direction.

“While the journey has been meaningful, I recognise that leadership requires not only the courage to pursue an ambition, but also the wisdom to discern when circumstances call for restraint, reflection, and a different course of action,” she said.

She clarified that her withdrawal should not be interpreted as a loss of faith in the ideals and aspirations that motivated her to seek the elective position.

“Please understand that this decision is a matter of circumstance and personal responsibility, rather than a diminished belief in the ideals, aspirations, and principles that inspired my pursuit,” she added.

Thanks supporters for standing with her

The former aspirant expressed gratitude to those who supported her political journey, acknowledging their trust, time and commitment to her vision.

She emphasised that leadership was not defined solely by holding public office but also by the values one upholds and the contribution one makes to society.

“I firmly believe that leadership is not defined solely by the positions we seek or the offices we occupy, but by the values we uphold, the relationships we cultivate, and the contributions we continue to make to society,” Saumu stated.

She suggested that she would remain committed to serving the public despite stepping away from the electoral contest.

Saumu hints at future plans

While announcing her withdrawal, Saumu indicated that she could reveal more about her future direction and upcoming projects when circumstances allow.

“At the appropriate time, and when circumstances permit, I shall communicate further regarding my future direction and the opportunities through which we may continue working together,” she said.

She expressed hope that she would continue collaborating with supporters and other partners to pursue shared goals and contribute to positive change.

For now, Saumu has appealed for understanding and continued goodwill as she navigates the decision, reaffirming her commitment to public service.
