Boniface Mwangi Backs Babu Owino And Edwin Sifuna As Key Figures In Opposition Strategy

Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has commended Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, describing him as an exceptionally skilled political mobilizer while reflecting on the lawmaker’s personal growth and public leadership.

Speaking on the Iko Nini podcast on Thursday, September 24, 2026, Mwangi observed that the legislator underwent a significant personal transformation following the high-profile shooting incident involving Felix Orinda, popularly known as DJ Evolve.

“I think people do change. I think Babu had a Damascus moment when he shot DJ Evolve,” Mwangi stated. “According to him, he stopped drinking, and stopped using any form of …that impairs his judgement.”

Mwangi expressed support for the MP’s political ambitions—including his interest in countywide leadership—provided those pursuits remain anchored within constitutional standards. He highlighted Owino’s track record as an organizer for the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as evidence of his grass-root mobilization capacity.

“If he can operate within the Constitution, I have no problem with him. The other thing I think about Babu and I respect him, he is a very good mobiliser,” Mwangi noted. “Babu is a brilliant mobiliser. And he was a really good mobiliser for Baba.”

Addressing recent public friction between Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Mwangi urged both leaders to resolve their differences, noting that their combined influence is vital for the broader political landscape ahead of future electoral contests.

“My hope is that this small disagreement, which has been amplified more by strangers than the people inside, could be dealt with,” Mwangi added. “Because I think Babu and Sifuna are very necessary to remove Ruto.”
