EastEnders' Lee Carter actor responds to fan frenzy over baby storyline

EastEnders spoilers follow for Tuesday’s episode (6 October), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV.
EastEnders actor Danny Hatchard has addressed the BBC soap's shock baby plotline involving his character Lee Carter and his on-screen sister Nancy Carter. Last night's episode saw the shocking revelation that Nancy was pregnant with his baby, shocking their mum, Linda Carter.
Of course, all is not what it seems, with scenes airing tonight that are already available on BBC iPlayer, seeing the baby storyline take another twist yet.

Nancy explains to a disgusted Linda that it's not her baby biologically, and that the siblings have entered a surrogacy arrangement after Lee and his partner, Jess, had struggled to conceive a child of their own.
Nancy offered to carry the baby, made with Jess' egg and Lee's sperm, to allow the couple to take home the child they had always wanted.
After the initial shock scenes aired, Danny took to TikTok to poke fun at fans clutching their pearls.
In the video, he can be seen reading a book before reading a message on his phone and looking over both of his shoulders with a worried expression.
The caption reads: "So your sister’s having your baby? You’ve got some explaining to do - A."

It seems to reference the famously dramatic teen series Pretty Little Liars, in which the central characters were relentlessly taunted by a mysterious person, going by the alias A, who seemed to know their deepest, darkest secrets.
We don't know if this storyline will take such a sinister turn, but Lee has certainly been keeping some secrets about his family life close to his chest.
He told Linda that Jess had left him, but in actuality, a phone call he received at the end of the episode seemed to suggest the opposite.
"Why are you calling me? I ain't telling you where I am," Lee says. "Listen, my family and this baby are nothing to do with you anymore. Don't call me again, Jess."
EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
