A new show in the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” universe is on the way — covering an Avatar from generations past.

Paramount+ has ordered “Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos,” an animated series focused on the Water Tribe Avatar three generations before Avatar Aang. The announcement was made onstage during the New York Comic-Con panel for “Avatar: Seven Havens,” which premiered today on Paramount+.

The series, billed as “the next installment” in the franchise, will be produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios. Bryan Konietzko, the “Avatar” co-creator alongside Michael Dante DiMartino, will serve as showrunner.

The series’ logline reads: “A rebellious teenage Avatar bucks thousands of years of tradition by choosing to learn the four elements through globetrotting adventures, staying one step ahead of his angry teacher, rowdy pirates, and chaotic spirits – all while helping the world in his own unique ways.”

Paramount+ also released first-look images from the series, which can be seen above and below.

Konietzko and DiMartino unveiled the series during a New York Comic-Con “Avatar” panel on Friday, coinciding with the premiere of “Avatar: Seven Havens,” their show following the latest Avatar. The panel was moderated by Janet Varney, who voiced Korra in “The Legend of Korra.”

The co-creators also revealed “Avatar: Seven Havens” was renewed for two additional seasons, or Books 3 and 4.

Development of the series was first reported by Knight Edge Media.
