Emmerdale's Jacob Sugden makes shock exit demand in baby plot

There was a shock exit demand on Emmerdale tonight, as Jacob Sugden was nowhere to be seen following the bombshell revelation about Leyla's parentage. With Sarah looking for her husband, where could he have gone?

Monday's (14 September) episode of the ITV soap saw Jacob discover that Leyla was in fact a product of the one-night stand between Charity Dingle and Ross Barton, rather than being born via surrogacy from Charity.

Sarah too had only discovered this recently, though she decided not to tell Jacob initially. Instead, she privately disowned Charity, and contributed to her being placed behind bars for the murder of Dr Caitlin Todd.

Sarah eventually told Jacob everything, and this led to a furious argument, with Tuesday's instalment beginning as Sarah reveals to Eric Pollard – Jacob's grandfather – that her husband had gone AWOL – with Leyla in tow.

Sarah frantically called Cain, while Eric asked Nicola King if she had seen him. The search got under way in the village, with Moira, Mackenzie, Ross and Cain all joining Sarah to help.

It turned out that Ross actually knew where Jacob was, and he attempted to talk with him despite the evident tension between the pair. Ross explained the whole timeline of the situation, though Jacob branded him "disgusting" for his actions.

Though admitting that Jacob was well within his right to dismiss him, Ross said that Jacob's latest actions were merely a tactic to preserve his own ego rather than benefitting Leyla in the long run. He told him to go home, and rebuild broken bonds.

Ross eventually let Sarah know that Jacob had been found, and Cain attempted to calm her mind. He said that Sarah would feel extreme guilt about what she did to Charity, even if she had ground to never forgive her.

Jacob returned home, and apologised to Sarah for scaring her. He assured her that she wasn't to blame for anything, but he admitted to having doubts about the future. Despite Sarah's words, he said he was barely related to Leyla.

Sarah attempted to explain that the only reason Leyla was there was because of their bond, despite what had happened. Jacob, in saying that he could never trust Charity again, was fearful that she would try to raise Leyla herself.

He suggested that the only option for the family was to move away, though Sarah didn't approve of that idea. She was harbouring guilt over Charity's plight in prison, and offered to retract her statement.

She went to the police station, though found herself in a spot of bother as she perverted the course of justice. With Sarah being kept in for questioning, and with Jacob suggesting they move, it's a dramatic time for the family.
