Rescuers save disabled elephant swept away by flash flood

CHIANG MAI — 19 September, Rescuers have successfully brought a disabled elephant ashore after it was swept away by raging floodwaters in Mae Win, Mae Wang district, following heavy rain in Chiang Mai.

The “Rom Daen Chang” Facebook page provided an update on efforts to rescue the elephant after it was carried away by flash floodwaters in the Mae Win area.

Rescuers managed to reach the elephant and identified it as Pang Aem, a female elephant with a disability affecting one of her front legs.

She had been swept downstream by strong floodwaters amid high water levels and powerful currents, raising concerns among the rescue team and people following the incident.

The latest update brought good news, with rescuers successfully bringing Pang Aem to safety on the riverbank.

The elephant is now being allowed to stand and rest as she regains her composure after the frightening ordeal. The rescue team is also carrying out a detailed health check to determine whether she suffered any wounds or other injuries after being swept away.

The incident has drawn widespread attention from elephant lovers, many of whom have sent messages of support to the rescue team and wished for Pang Aem’s safe recovery.
