Netflix U.K. Layoffs Hit Up to 3% of London HQ, Production VP Anna Mallett Exits

The seismic changes at Netflix are rippling across the pond, with up to 3% of the streamer’s London HQ set to be laid off.

The aftershocks have also claimed production VP Anna Mallett, who is exiting amid the shake-up.

Mallett, who was vice president of physical production for the U.K. and local language production across EMEA, Latin America and Asia Pacific, was appointed in 2020. She joined from news producer ITN, where she was CEO, to oversee the production management team for live-action series, non-fiction and film.

She has previously held senior roles at BBC Studios.

During her tenure at Netflix, the streamer launched numerous U.K. hits from “Baby Reindeer” to “Adolescence.” But with Netflix jettisoning content chief Bela Bajaria in favor of Disney and Fox alum Peter Rice, there are concerns more shake-ups are on the horizon, particularly in terms of international output.

For the time being, co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos claim nothing is going to change, at least internationally. “We had great results in APAC, LATAM and EMEA,” Peters said in Netflix’s most recent earnings call. “Our local titles from those regions are driving engagement and they’re driving business growth. And you can see how our business model works here.”

Mallett was based at the streaming platform’s London headquarters, which has also shed 2 to 3% of its workforce in the current re-org, including some in the publicity department. Worldwide Netflix is understood to have cut 1000 jobs.
