Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.

Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.

Considered one of the best video game releases of the modern age, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is still talked about to this day, and for good reason. Winning the coveted Game of the Year award at 2025's The Game Awards, the RPG set in a dark-fantasy Belle Époque France tells the story of an expedition who sets off on a deadly journey to put a stop to the Paintress once and for all, with the mysterious entity causing the death of many of the city's inhabitants each year.

Praised for its narrative, themes, performances, art direction, and more, Clair Obscur: Expedition is considered a masterpiece, so it comes as no surprise that the news that it will be leaving the Xbox Game Pass library has come as a shock to fans. However, in good news, those who have yet to pick up the beloved title will still have time to complete it before it heads back to full price.

Clair Obscur: Expedition is set to leave the Xbox Game Pass library on 15 October and then, unfortunately, it will be heading back to its RRP of $49.99/£44.99. However, with HowLongToBeat suggesting that the RPG takes 30 hours to complete the main story, you still have plenty of time to dive in before it is removed.

Of course, 30 hours is the suggested time to complete the main story without getting distracted. However, if you wish to pursue that 100% completion, you will be expected to sink around 45 to 70 hours. Again, it is doable if you do not value your sleep.

Here at Screen Rant, our very own Lee D'Amato awarded Clair Obscur: Expedition a 9/10, calling it a "heartfelt love letter to RPGs past" in his review.

It has its flaws, but they're relatively minor, and rarely distract from its undeniable originality and obvious quality. If I were to make a wishlist of everything I wanted out of a turn-based RPG, it would tick every box. I suspect that's precisely what Sandfall Interactive set out to do, and its passion for the genre shines through in every aspect of the game. For anyone who shares even a fraction of that passion, then Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is not to be missed.

With a myriad of awards under its belt, raving reviews, and calls for a sequel, it is no wonder that fans are disappointed to see Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 leave the Xbox Game Pass library. However, all good things must come to an end, and hopefully its removal will inspire those who have not yet played it to finally take the leap. That being said, it is also a gaming experience that deserves its full price tag.
