Not With The Bat: Tilak Varma Creates World Record In Just Three Overs During India vs New Zealand 2nd T20I

Translate

It took Tilak Varma only three overs in the second India vs New Zealand T20I on Saturday to achieve a world record. However, it was not with his bat but in the field. Tilak now holds the world record for the most catches in a calendar year in T20Is. The Hyderabad-based cricketer took the catches of Tim Seifert (off Arshdeep Singh) and Daryl Mitchell (off Bhuvneshwar Kumar) in the first three overs. With those two catches, he reached 26 catches this year, breaking the record of 25 catches held by Danilson Hawoe of Indonesia.

Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has returned to the India cricket team for the second Twenty20 International on Saturday, giving fans in the Southern Hemisphere their first chance to see the 15-year-old prodigy.

Vaibhav steps into the India lineup in place of Ishan Kishan, who has a groin injury, and will bat at first drop unless India chooses to pair him in an all-left-handed opening partnership with Abhishek Sharma.

The only other change to the India lineup comes in the bowling attack, where Prince Yadav replaces Mayank Yadav.

India won the toss on Saturday and chose to bowl, as it did in the first match of the series, which it won by four wickets with two balls remaining. The thrilling match saw 455 runs scored as India achieved its highest successful run chase in T20I history.

New Zealand has made one change, also in the bowling attack, naming Jacob Duffy in place of Adam Milne.

The match is being played on the same pitch at Hagley Oval on which the first match was played.
