VP Gibran orders faster restoration of flood-damaged access in Solok

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka ordered faster restoration of roads, bridges and public facilities damaged by flash floods in Solok District, West Sumatra, to restore public access and services.

“The priority now is the immediate restoration of main access. We will ensure the routes used by the public are safe to resume citizen mobility, aid distribution, and government services,” he said.

Gibran emphasized that public safety must remain the top priority in all post-disaster response efforts.

During an inspection of the Arosuka Bridge linking Padang City and Solok District on Friday, Gibran ordered immediate repairs to the bridge and surrounding roads.

“Main access roads and bridges must be restored as quickly as possible. Prioritize the safety of residents traveling by,” he said.

Gibran also inspected government facilities, including the Solok District Public Works and Spatial Planning Office.

He instructed officials to immediately assess public facilities and offices damaged by Monday evening's, Sept. 21, flash floods to determine emergency measures and permanent repairs.

“Reporting on affected government facilities must be done immediately, identifying those requiring emergency measures and those requiring permanent repairs. Most importantly, public services must not be interrupted,” he said.

Solok District Head Jon Firman Pandu outlined several post-disaster recovery priorities, including plans to build a sabo dam as a mitigation measure.

“The plan to build a sabo dam is crucial for the future. In addition, repairs to office buildings related to public services, rice fields, houses, and mosques are also needed,” he said.
