GTA 6 PC launch reports denied by Xbox executive

Translate

If you were hoping that GTA 6 might be sneaking onto PC at launch, we have some bad news for you.

Like its predecessor, GTA 6 is set to launch on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, with a PC port expected to arrive at a later date.

But with Xbox's console and PC ecosystem so closely linked, recent speculation had posited that purchasing the game on Xbox would allow for it to be played on PC.

A recent report from The Verge claimed that Xbox had secured GTA 6 streaming rights, and that players would be able to stream the game to their PCs via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Those hopes were quickly dashed, however, as Xbox CSO Matthew Ball took to Twitter to dispel the rumours:

"While the excitement for GTA VI and Xbox is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTA VI on Xbox November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."

While still rather vague for a clarifying statement, Ball's post seems to suggest that the streaming deal only applies to consoles, and that PC apps and web browsers that otherwise can be used for streaming will not work for GTA 6.

This news comes only a month after Microsoft announced a raft of changes to its Cloud Gaming offering.

From November, Xbox Cloud Gaming will institute a cap of 15 hours for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, 10 hours for Premium, and only five hours for Essential.

Whether or not these changes have anything to do with GTA 6 is unknown, but the fact that they are being instituted in the same month as its release coupled with the announcement of this streaming deal seems rather on the nose.
