P.V. Sindhu advances to quarters in Arctic Open; Tanvi Sharma crashes out

Two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu defeated Japan’s Riko Gunji on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Arctic Open.
Sindhu won comfortably, defeating Gunji 21-9, 21-12 to book her place in the next round. She will next face Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon for a place in the semifinals.
Intanon, the top seed, defeated India’s Tanvi Sharma 21-18, 21-7. The Thai holds the edge in her head-to-head record against Sindhu.
In their 14 previous meetings, Intanon has won 10 times, while Sindhu has prevailed on four occasions. The two last met at the Indonesia Masters in 2022, where Intanon won 21-12, 21-10.
