Exclusive: Casualty's Kirsty Mitchell teases exciting Faith story in new series

Casualty's Kirsty Mitchell has teased an exciting story for her character Faith Dean, when the new series arrives next year. The BBC medical drama will see some big changes as it moves from Holby to a fictional Welsh hospital.

At the end of the last boxset, Faith decided to take a break from work to spend some time with her and Iain's newborn daughter Pearl. However, she later came back to help at the ED during the 40th anniversary episodes, following the explosion at St James' Hospital.

Despite her return, it has been reported that both Mitchell and co-star Sammy Dobson (who plays Nicole Piper) have permanently departed the show. But speaking to Digital Spy, Mitchell shared that we haven't seen the last of Faith yet.

"The future for Faith… Faith's got quite a lot to do in the new season," she exclusively told us. "I think you're going to be seeing a lot more medical from Faith, and she's going to solve a lot of problems and save some lives. Yeah, it gets exciting!"

The star reflected on what makes Casualty such a special show, having engaged audiences for 40 years. She attributed its success to being a "family drama" and shared her own memories of watching it with her loved ones.

"I have so many beautiful memories of sitting with my little nana, and she loved the show. We used to watch this and Cell Block H! She just loved all the operations.

"I'm really squeamish, so I'm terrible – I am getting better on set, but I have been known to nearly throw up on certain things. But my nana loved it. To me, it's such a treasure that I have memories of watching old episodes with her."

Mitchell explained that many fans write to the cast online, sharing their own similar memories across generations.

She continued: "There are so few shows out there where you can do that, where you can sit down as a family and everybody wants to talk about it and everybody's got their favourite characters. I think that's what's really special about Casualty, as well as all the exciting storylines and the continuous support for the NHS, and the truth."

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer, where episodes are released at 6am on the day of transmission.
