Azeez, family ordered to declare assets

Translate

Former Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and his family have been ordered to declare their assets by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

MACC chief Abd Halim Aman said asset declaration notices have been served on Azeez and his immediate family, including his children, Kosmo reported.

“Under the law, they have a month (to declare their assets). If that one-month period is insufficient, we could grant an extension.

“It’s his immediate family. I can’t say how many (have been served with asset declaration notices), but it includes his children,” he said.

On Sept 9, Azeez claimed trial to abusing his position as TH chairman to obtain gratification in the form of a chairmanship and other perks in another company.

The position allegedly came with an annual remuneration of RM690,000 and the use of a BMW 7 Series car.

The former Baling MP from Umno was charged in 2019 with accepting bribes amounting to RM5.2 million in connection with road projects in Perak and Kedah, and 10 counts of money laundering involving RM13.9 million.

Four of the money laundering charges were quashed in August 2022 before he was granted a full acquittal in his corruption case in December that year.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers had said it concluded that it did not have any evidence to support the corruption case brought against Azeez after further investigations by MACC.
