Chrono Trigger Officially Returns February 2027 In New Collection

Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.

Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.

First published back in 1995 for the SNES, Chrono Trigger marked the first installment in the Chrono series and now, after over three decades, it is set to make a grand return in 2027.

Considered one of the greatest video games of all time and since welcoming multiple rereleases, Chrono Trigger is remembered fondly, which is why it comes as no surprise that fans are thrilled to hear that there is still more to come.

To celebrate the 31st anniversary of Chrono Trigger, Square Enix announced a brand-new entry in the franchise earlier this year: Chrono Trigger: One Mark. It may not be a new game, but it is a new collection of gacha keychains that dedicated fans will not want to miss out on.

However, that is not all, as a brand-new line celebrating both the original game and its iconic characters is set to arrive next year, according to a report by GoNintendo. Set to launch in February 2027, the collection will focus on Chrono Trigger's playable characters as well as a Nu and now, it is available for pre-order.

The collection will feature some adorable plushies with Square Enix set to release three characters to celebrate the return of Chrono Trigger. Featuring Frog, Robo, and the iconic Nu, the miniature plushies feature a stunning resemblance to their inspired characters, with Frog wielding his Masamune sword whilst his other hand is home to his shield. Of course, he will also be dressed in all his finery, complete with flowing cape.

As for Robo, he is sat down looking very much in character for somebody who joined the team late, and as for the Nu, it is perhaps the most adorable, with a blueberry-looking body, green spiky hair, and frog-like limbs.

Despite all three being set to release on 28 February 2027, they will each come alongside a separate price. According to the report, the Nu plushie comes in at $14, being the cheapest in the set. Alternatively, the Frog retails at $19, whilst the Robo doll will be the most expensive at $24. If you are interested in pre-ordering, you will find them here, and in case you were wondering, they are officially licensed Square products, so you will be getting your hands on official merchandise dedicated to the hit franchise.

With a multitude of Chrono Trigger-related announcements taking place throughout the year, fans are hoping that this will lead to news of a highly anticipated and long-sought-after remake of the original title. However, it seems as though Square Enix is refusing to budge, instead focusing more on its long-running Final Fantasy franchise.

That being said, stranger things have happened, and maybe this is just the beginning of a Chrono Trigger resurgence.
