Asian Games 2026: India thrashes Japan, to face Bangladesh in women’s cricket semifinal

A dominant performance with the ball set up a crushing eight-wicket victory for India over Japan in the quarterfinals of women’s cricket at the Asian Games 2026.

India dominated the clash, bundling out Japan for 57 after winning the toss at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin. The Women in Blue chased down the total in just five overs and will now face Bangladesh in the semifinal on Sunday, September 20.

The Indian win was set up by the spin quartet of N. Shree Charani, Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, and the returning Shreyanka Patil, who took eight wickets among them.

The Japanese batters struggled against the wily Indian spinners as they managed to score just three boundaries in their innings. Opener Ayaka Kato-Stafford ended as the top-scorer for the home team, with a 47-ball 25.

Shafali ignited the Indian chase with a 15-ball 40, studded with six fours and two fours. While G Kamalini and Bharti Fulmali missed out, Richa Ghosh, walking in at No.4, applied the finishing touches with a six down the ground.
