History, sadly for Thiruvananthapuram Kombans, did not repeat itself. There was no comeback from a two-goal deficit, and thus no opportunity to win a penalty shootout.
The Kombans, after their dramatic victory at home against Malappuram FC at the weekend, were soundly beaten 0-3 by Forca Kochi in the Super League Kerala at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Friday night. The win has taken Kochi’s points tally to eight, going level with Calicut FC, which, though, has played a game less.
The Kombans are lying in the bottom half, with just four points. On this night, they conceded an early lead and could never recover.
That goal was scored, in the sixth minute, by Raghav Gupta, who made use of a superb cross into the box by Diego Hernandez. Raghav firmly put the ball past the Kombans custodian Satyajit Bordoloi.
Kochi continued to create more chances. In fact, at the half-hour mark, there were two splendid shots on target, but on both occasions, the woodwork intervened. The Kombans’ relief was short lived though, as the impressive Rahul Raju made it 2-0, scoring from close range, after charging in.
The host led by those two goals at half-time. After the interval too, the Kombans struggled, while Kochi continued to press hard for another goal, which came in due course. Harshal Rahman struck neatly from just outside the box, after beating the Kochi defence.
Result
