A 33-year-old woman has died by suicide at her home in Pune's Mukund Nagar.

Payal Akshay Zhambre had been married for 6-7 years and had a 4-year-old daughter.

Police said they received a call at around 11.00 am and found her body at her home behind Zhambre Palace, a wedding venue in the south of the city which her father-in-law owns.

After her death, relatives gathered at the venue and vandalised it. They alleged that there were constant demands from her in-laws for gold.

Preliminary information suggests a family dispute. Police said that Payal's husband and in-laws are currently on the run following the incident.

Local authorities moved in quickly to secure the area, and a large police force is currently deployed to maintain law and order.
