Mrs Brown's Boys future teased by cast at NTAs: "Keep an eye on the schedules for the New Year"

Last month, Mrs Brown's Boys fans were dealt a blow, as it was announced that the show's upcoming Christmas and New Year’s specials had been cancelled.

This was due to an “unexpected medical issue”, as creator and star Brendan O’Carroll had to undergo "immediate surgery and a few months' recovery".

Now, speaking after the show won the Comedy award at this year's National Television Awards, the cast and creatives behind the series have teased that it could be back on our screens sooner than we might have expected.

Speaking exclusively with Radio Times in the video above, Sharon McGoogan star Fiona Gibney said that "2027 is the one to watch, definitely".

Director Ben Kellett added that fans should "watch this space," before Gibney continued, saying: "Just keep an eye on the schedules for the New Year, and definitely all the socials will tell you what's going on. We'll be back, and then obviously we'll have a new tour as well, which will be great."

Reflecting on the show's NTAs win, Father Damien star Conor Moloney said: "We're genuinely chuffed because we felt like we mightn't win this year, so honestly, I think we're all deliciously happy."

Kellett added that they were all "grinning like idiots".

News of a 2027 return certainly chimes with a statement put out by O'Carroll when he announced the cancellation of the festive specials.

He said at the time: "I now need to focus on getting myself back to full health, and I genuinely cannot wait to see you all again in 2027.

"Our fans mean the world to us, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support and trust me Agnes Brown and her family will be back!"

Mrs Brown's Boys has been on the air since 2011, and at the NTAs it beat out fellow nominees in the Comedy category including Amandaland, Changing Ends, Last One Laughing and Not Going Out.
