The number of bank branches offering Home Affairs Smart ID services has now increased to 721 across South Africa, according to the latest partner-branch list.

The updated list represents an increase of 25 branches from the 696 branches included in the previous list.

Four major banks are included in the rollout: Capitec, Standard Bank, FNB and Absa, with participating branches spread across all nine provinces.

Capitec continues to have the largest network, with 373 participating branches, followed by Standard Bank with 157.

FNB has increased its number of participating branches to 142, while Absa has seen the biggest expansion, rising from 30 to 49 branches.

The latest list shows the service offered at the participating branches as “Smart ID Card Re-issue”.

Where are the branches?

The participating branches are spread across all nine provinces, giving South Africans more options for accessing Smart ID services through banks.

The updated list includes branches in major centres such as Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and Gqeberha, as well as smaller towns and regional centres.

The updated list, including the branch name, suburb or area and province, can be found using the Department’s online locator tool.

Applicants should check the latest Home Affairs partner-branch information before visiting, as the services available at individual branches can change.

The latest list specifically identifies the service as Smart ID Card Re-issue, so applicants should confirm that their required service is available at their chosen branch before making the trip.
