Cary Joji Fukunaga, Sine Plambech to Lead Juries at Zurich Film Festival

U.S. writer-director Cary Joji Fukunaga, whose films include “No Time to Die,” will head the Feature Film Competition jury at the Zurich Film Festival this year.

The section, which has 14 films, is dedicated to the first, second or third feature of the directors. The top prize is the Golden Eye, together with CHF 25,000 ($30,340).

The Feature Film Competition jury will also include Swiss-French actress Ella Rumpf (“Love Letters”), Mexican director and screenwriter Fernando Eimbcke (“Moscas”), producer Julie Billy (“The Little Sister”), and Italian film editor and director Walter Fasano (“Nino – Un Film Su Nino Rota”).

Danish filmmaker and anthropologist Sine Plambech (“Heartbound”) will serve as the president of the jury of the Documentary Competition, which has 14 films too.

Alongside Plambech will be Spanish cinematographer Alfredo de Juan (“Edge of the Unknown”), Norwegian producer Anne Köhncke (“Pervert Park”), Swiss director Jela Hasler (“Les Nouvelles Èves”), and Austrian director and producer Nikolaus Geyrhalter (“Homo Sapiens”).

Fukunaga’s first feature film, “Sin Nombre,” screened in competition at Zurich in 2009. In 2021, the festival presented his James Bond film “No Time to Die” as a Gala Premiere.

Plambech’s debut documentary “Heartbound” won the Golden Eye at Zurich in 2018. Her latest film, “Rescue,” will have its European premiere at the festival.

Fukunaga’s film work includes “Jane Eyre” and “Beasts of No Nation.” He co-wrote the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s “It.” He recently wrapped production on a film adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s “Blood on Snow.” In television, Fukunaga won an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for the first season of HBO’s “True Detective.”
