Kimi Antonelli’s title charge to become Formula 1’s youngest ever world champion will in all likelihood reach its fairytale ending at the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 20-year old Italian leads the standings with 365 points, over 120 points ahead of Mercedes teammate George Russell in second and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton in third.

Antonelli will surpass Sebastian Vettel, who won the F1 title in 2010 with Red Bull when he was 23 years and 134 days old.

What does Antonelli need to do to become World Champion in Mexico?

Before we come to the Mexico City Grand Prix, the highest altitude circuit in the calendar, Antonelli will become world champion if the Qatar and Abu Dhabi races get cancelled, with the result at Mexico bearing no effect.

But, as things stand, there is no official word yet on their conduct which means Antonelli will need to outscore Russell and Hamilton by a certain margin to seal the deal. The task at hand is straightforward and simple- Antonelli just needs to finish ninth or higher in the main race to be crowned world champion.

If Antonelli finishes tenth, he will win the title provided Hamilton wins the race. If Hamilton and Russell don’t win the race, Antonelli will become champion regardless of his finishing position.
