On Monday, NTPC, a leading state-run power company, announced its collaboration with the Mizoram government to establish an archery academy in the state, with an estimated investment of Rs 13.28 crore.

NTPC’s Bongaigaon unit, located in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, will execute the project, the company said in a statement.

As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in the Northeast, NTPC Bongaigaon signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Mizoram State Sports Council (MSSC) to set up the academy at Lengpui in Mamit district.

The company said the project will be carried out over a period of three years.

The proposed academy seeks to offer dedicated archery training infrastructure, professional coaching, modern equipment and structured opportunities for aspiring athletes.

According to the statement, the facility will focus on identifying promising young archers, improving their technical skills and preparing them for competitions at the district, state and national levels.

Regular coaching and practice opportunities will also be provided to promote archery, particularly among school and college students and emerging athletes from Mizoram and nearby areas.

Responsibility for establishing, operating and maintaining the academy will rest with the MSSC, while NTPC Bongaigaon will provide financial support and oversee implementation through periodic reviews and progress assessments.

The initiative seeks to create a lasting platform for sports development by connecting grassroots talent with structured training and competitive opportunities, according to the company.
