Gregg Wallace hits out at MasterChef revamp's viewing figures following exit from hit BBC show

Gregg Wallace has taken a swipe at MasterChef's viewing figures in a new social media post, in which he spoke about his mistakes.

In a video posted to Instagram, Wallace said his biggest mistake was "television", specifically "not getting out sooner".

"Realising the way it was going and not being brave enough to get out quicker," he explained.

His followers quickly flooded his comment section with responses to the video, with one writing: "Life is funny isn't it? One minute you're on the BBC, co-hosting a flagship show watched by millions. Then all of a sudden [you're] reviewing KFC out the back of your car."

Wallace responded: "Yes. I think you should look at MasterChef figures since I left. I think you should look at the viewing figures of terrestrial television. I think you should then look at the viewing figures of You Tube. Looking forward to you coming back to me."

The revamped season of MasterChef, which starred Grace Dent and Anna Haugh as the new hosts, launched with a 28-day consolidated rating of 2.7 million viewers.

Since June 2026, Wallace has been posting videos to his YouTube channel. At the time of writing, he has 13,100 subscribers and 200 videos, with his most popular video attracting 63,000 views.

Wallace was fired from the long-running BBC show back in July 2025 after more than 40 claims against him were upheld as part of an inquiry into his conduct.

After he was let go from the show, he said that he was "deeply sorry for any distress" caused and that he "never set out to harm or humiliate", but noted that "none of the serious allegations against me were upheld".

Earlier this month, Wallace's former co-star John Torode revealed that they don't see each other anymore.

"When we filmed, we filmed, and when we didn’t, we weren't in touch," he told The Times. "Why would it change now?"
