With the next chapters of the Shrek franchise nearer than ever, it's exciting to note that the last major movie in the Shrek universe is reportedly set to come to Netflix today, and provide audiences a fresh way to revisit the overarching film franchise, via watching a movie that focuses on one of its most beloved characters in no small way.

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Is Due To Arrive On Netflix Today

September is set to see a wide roster of movies and shows arrive on and leave Netflix throughout the course of the month - and indeed, much of this has already happened for the platform, given the first day of the month tends to be a period wherein Netflix's release roster is refreshed. However, one major movie is arriving today on the streaming service instead.

As per What's On Netflix, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish is due to appear on Netflix from 10 September 2026, allowing audiences to catch the latest movie spinoff to the Shrek movie series so far on the streaming platform.

The Shrek series has had some major success on Netflix overall, with the original animated classic Shrek itself having hit Netflix's weekly top 10 most-watched movies globally on the service from August 24–30 as per Netflix official statistics. As such, having the 2022 Puss in Boots sequel spinoff appear on Netflix makes a lot of sense, especially given new chapters are coming in the near future for the franchise.

Why Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Has Been The Shrek Franchise's Only Movie In 4 Years

As of 2026, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is also the last installment in the wider Shrek franchise thus far, meaning we've had 4 years without another addition to the overarching film series.

That said, it's easy to see why, as Shrek 5's release was delayed until 2027 after previous scheduled release windows in July 2026 and then December 2026 before the film was pushed back into the following year. Similarly, a Donkey movie spinoff is also in the works for the franchise, though it's not set to release until after Shrek 5 itself, thanks to its reported 2028 release window.

As such, until Shrek 5 releases on June 30, 2027, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish will remain the franchise's most recent installment - which is by no means a bad thing for the film or the wider Shrek franchise, given the positive critical acclaim the second Puss in Boots film received still lives on to this day, and looks as though it could be renewed once more by its arrival on Netflix.
