Great news for Liverpool fans in KwaZulu-Natal

Liverpool supporters in KwaZulu-Natal are getting their own official home, with the club’s third standalone store in South Africa opening in Durban this week.

The new Official Liverpool FC Store at Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga will open its doors on Thursday, 1 October, followed by an official opening celebration on Saturday, 3 October.

The Durban store follows the opening of official LFC stores at Canal Walk in Cape Town and Mall of Africa in Johannesburg in May.

It will give Liverpool supporters in KwaZulu-Natal a dedicated place to buy official club merchandise without having to travel to Cape Town or Johannesburg.

Lucas Leiva heading to Durban

Liverpool legend Lucas Leiva will be among the special guests at Saturday’s opening celebration.

The Brazilian midfielder spent a decade at Anfield between 2007 and 2017, making more than 300 appearances for Liverpool.

Leiva will meet supporters and sign player cards during the opening celebrations.

The Premier League trophy will also be on display, giving fans an opportunity to see the famous silverware up close.

More than 2 500 supporters have already registered for tickets to the opening celebration, underlining the anticipation surrounding the new store.

Liverpool’s Durban opening weekend

The celebrations will run across three days.

Thursday, 1 October:
The store officially opens, with an Anfield giveaway also launching.

Friday, 2 October:
Liverpool supporters will take part in a fun run through Durban, with fans encouraged to wear their LFC jerseys.

Saturday, 3 October:
The official opening celebration will feature Lucas Leiva and the Premier League trophy, along with a DJ, raffles and opening discounts.

‘Durban supporters don’t have to travel’

Liverpool FC senior vice president of merchandising Lee Dwerryhouse said the club was pleased to be expanding its retail presence in South Africa.

“South Africa has a huge and incredibly passionate community of Liverpool FC supporters, and we’re really pleased to be opening our third store in the country in just six months,” Dwerryhouse said.

He added that having stores in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban would bring the club closer to more supporters while providing access to official LFC products.

The Gateway opening further strengthens Liverpool’s commercial presence in a South African market with a significant supporter base.
