Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s future capital Nusantara in East Kalimantan is scheduled to host the 3rd Borneo Economic Forum in 2027, aiming to boost cross-border economic ties and business partnerships across Borneo.

The announcement was made during the Gala Dinner of the 2nd Borneo Economic Forum 2026 in Kuching, Sarawak, on Wednesday (October 7) through a ceremonial baton handover from Co-Chair of the Borneo Economic Community (BEC) Arsjad Rasjid to Head of Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) Basuki Hadimuljono.

In an official statement released by the Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching on Friday, Hadimuljono emphasized the importance of building confidence in Nusantara as an emerging engine of economic growth situated in the heart of Borneo.

Entering its second development phase from 2025 to 2029, Nusantara is envisioned as a smart sustainable forest city designed to unlock wide-ranging opportunities for collaboration and private investment across multiple sectors.

Hadimuljono invited domestic investors from East Kalimantan as well as international partners to participate in developing the new capital and tap into its emerging economic prospects.

Meanwhile, Rasjid underscored the need to reinforce cross-border, cross-sectoral, and community-wide partnerships to unlock Borneo’s economic potential, particularly in energy, connectivity, digital transformation, and integrated industrial development.

He emphasized that regional economic expansion must deliver tangible public dividends, including job creation, increased capital inflows, and higher living standards for local people.

The BEC serves as an inclusive private sector-led platform bringing together chambers of commerce, enterprises, industry associations, communities, and key stakeholders from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam.

The platform aims to identify concrete business prospects, transforming Borneo’s potential into bankable investments, strategic partnerships, and quality jobs.

Discussions during the 2nd Borneo Economic Forum — held on October 7–8, 2026, in Kuching — progressed from exchanging ideas to exploring tangible projects, identifying business partners, and outlining actionable implementation roadmaps.

This progress reflects growing momentum to bolster public-private synergy in enhancing connectivity, building regional value chains, and driving inclusive sustainable economic growth.

Hosting the upcoming forum offers strategic momentum to showcase Nusantara’s investment potential and solidify East Kalimantan’s role within Borneo's broader economic landscape.

By hosting the forum in 2027, Indonesia aims to deepen collaboration among regional governments, businesses, and communities to build an interconnected, competitive, and prosperous Borneo.
